Sadio Mane’s goals record compared to Harry Kane’s this year proves the Reds man deserves lots more credit

Sadio Mane is among the very elite footballers in the world, but even though he has not been at his absolute peak as of yet this season, the Senegalese deserves far more praise.

Take penalties out of the equation and, in 2019 so far, Spurs forward Harry Kane has only netted nine times for his club – 16 fewer than Sadio Mane has managed for the Reds, according to the Daily Mail.

Over a third of Kane’s goals have come penalties, while Mane not taken a spot-kick for the Reds, with that duty left to James Milner or Mo Salah.

Those numbers speak for themselves, but it must also be taken into consideration that Mane only came back for pre-season training a couple of days before the opening day clash against Norwich City at Anfield: he had spent the summer playing for his country at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Sometimes players are massively underrated in comparison to others who are typically favoured for one reason or another – and that is certainly the case here. It’s time people spoke more about how elite the Reds’ winger really is!
