Steven Gerrard’s Rangers assistant speaks out on Reds links as Jurgen Klopp replacement rumours continue

Steven Gerrard’s assistant manager, Michael Beale, says that the Reds legend is not thinking about a move to Anfield just yet despite a series of questions being asked about Jurgen Klopp’s long-term future at the club.

Klopp’s contract expires in around three year’s time and he has been reluctant to commit to a new deal so far, leading to speculation over who might come in next.

Gerrard, who is doing very well with table-topping Rangers, is always going to very close to the top of the shortlist.

Speaking exclusively to the Liverpool ECHO,  Beale explained: “We have not spoken about it. It’s a compliment but at this moment in time, Liverpool have the best manager for them.

“He is the biggest Liverpool fan and at this moment in time, if he had to choose a manager, it would be Jurgen Klopp.

“I don’t think Steven is looking too far ahead, it is a big job and obviously that is the dream – or rather, the aim – for him long term to manage the club.

At some point, it seems to be very likely that Gerrard will become the Reds’ boss, though he might have to move somewhere else before that.

If he is installed into the hot seat at Anfield, he won’t be there for sentiment alone – he will have to prove that he is the best man for the job. Sooner rather than later, though, it seems inevitable that Gerrard will come back.
