Jamie Carragher has named Sadio Mane as his favourite Liverpool player at the current time, calling him the best in the world in his position alongside Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling.

The ex-defender represented the Reds’ Legends team yesterday in a 3-2 win over Rangers (watch all the goals from that game by clicking here) and afterwards, he was able to catch a word with Liverpool’s official website.

Carragher was certainly enthusiastic about the Senegalese, who has found the net five times in eight Premier League matches so far this season, despite only returning for pre-season after the African Cup of Nations a couple of days before the new campaign kicked off.

Speaking to LiverpoolFC.com, he said: “After the first couple of games, I said Mane, probably along with Raheem Sterling, was possibly the best left winger in the world.

“I absolutely love him, he’s my favourite player at the club. He’s brilliant, he’s always got a smile on his face, always there, always gets knocked about, gets goals, setting others up.

“He’s the one who came in at the very start under Klopp, his first real big signing, and I think ever since then he’s just been getting better and better. He’s just a machine.”

Mane will be crucial to the Reds’ title chances this season, starting with the game at Old Trafford against Manchester United next weekend.

The Reds then face a tricky run of fixtures every few days, including matches against Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester City.
