Robbie Fowler: What this Reds man has done over the last four years is ‘frightening’

Reds legend Robbie Fowler has been outlining the reasons that he believes Jurgen Klopp has done a brilliant job in his time at Anfield to date.

This weekend marks four years since Klopp’s first match as Reds boss, the 0-0 draw with Tottenham at White Hart Lane, and there has been vast improvement on and off the pitch since then.

The Reds’ bench for Klopp’s first match consisted of Kolo Toure, Joe Allen, Jordon Ibe, Adam Bogdan, Jerome Sinclair, Joao Teixeira and Connor Randall, which highlights the change as much as anything else.

Writing for the Daily Mirror, Fowler explained: “The difference now is frightening. The evolution of this current Reds team says so much about him as a manager.

“To have the faith, the belief and the understanding of the club to set a four-year plan – as he did – and deliver it shows his mettle.

“I am a big fan of Brendan Rodgers and, under him, I think Liverpool were potentially on the rise again, but Klopp has taken them to a totally different level.”

This season, the Reds are eight points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League title race. Win the league and become the first manger to win that trophy for the Reds in three decades and Klopp’s achievements will taken to another level once again.

With the German having spent seven years at each of his previous two clubs, his time on Merseyside could be more than half complete.

What his four years so far have shown, though, is that a lot of improvement can be achieved in a small period of time – the Champions League trophy picked up at the end of last season will almost certainly not be his last major victory.
