Alberto Moreno speaks out on his relationship with Jurgen Klopp following Anfield departure

Alberto Moreno has spoken publicly about the Reds for the first time since departing Anfield for a return to La Liga this summer, claiming he considered leaving two seasons before he ended up making a switch away from Merseyside.

The Spaniard was never the right fit for the Reds with his rash defending, but there were moments to savour like the goal he scored against Tottenham shortly after he signed from Sevilla for around £12 million.

Now, he has been looking back at his time with the Reds and his relationship with former boss Jurgen Klopp.

Speaking to local news outlet El Periodico Mediterraneo, Moreno said: “After the Europa League final [in 2016] I spent the year on the bench. Then I thought of leaving.

“Klopp told me if I got something really good and he didn’t need me, to talk, but in the end, he convinced me to stay and the first day came and I started playing: Premier League, Champions League, always starting.

“Lopetegui even called me for the national team. But I was injured in December and after I recovered, I no longer played. Klopp no longer gave me opportunities. He’s a very good coach, but he decides to go forward with his 13 or 14 players and that works.”

Moreno was a nice enough character and he was well-liked in the dressing room, but in Andy Robertson, the Reds have the best left-back in the world.

Injury or no injury, the Scotland captain was always going to replace Moreno sooner rather than later. There is simply no comparison between the pair.
