Gerrard explains how he could have helped Klopp instead of leaving LFC

Steven Gerrard is now Rangers manager and doing a fine job, with his team top of the SPL.

We’re glad he’s learning the trade outside of England, although we found it a little uncomfortable seeing him pull on a Gers strip during the Legends game at the weekend…

Our former skipper spoke after the game about how part of him wishes he’d have stayed at Liverpool instead of leaving for LA Galaxy, so he could have worked under Jurgen Klopp.

Gerrard departed in the summer of 2015 when Brendan Rodgers was still in charge, but a few months later, the Northern Irishman was sacked and the German took the helm, with Stevie stateside.

“Of course it’s crossed my mind,” Gerrard told Sky Sports. “Maybe If I stayed a little longer, I could have bumped into Jurgen Klopp – he could have given me 10/15 minutes off the bench. I would have loved that!”

Gerrard could have done a job under Klopp, but the truth is by the end of his tenure – his legs were pretty much gone – and the boss requires immense physicality and running in his central three.

It wouldn’t have been a long-term option, but we’re sure Gerrard will return to Anfield one day.

Klopp has some more trophies to win first, but one day, when he needs to hand over the legacy he’s built, we hope our former no.8 may be ready to take the reigns!
