England face Bulgaria in a Euro 2020 qualifier this evening, and Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate has selected just one Reds man – Jordan Henderson – in his starting XI.
Kieran Trippier, now at Atletico Madrid, has been chosen to play at right-back over Trent Alexander-Arnold, while Aston Villa’s Tyrone Mings plays ahead of Joe Gomez in the centre of the defence.

The fact that neither are playing for England could be a good thing in that they can’t pick up injuries while sat on the bench, but Reds fans were baffled by the decision nonetheless.
As these tweets show, many Reds supporters simply could not get their head around the call.
So Southgate keep Maguire Trippier to start and keep Trent Gomez on the bench after the very bad performance and defeat aswell 😳 How is he thinking or not at all maybe 🙈

England’s loss is our gain, I’m alright with Southgate not playing Trent and Gomez as we have United on Sunday.

The Premier League returns at the weekend with the Reds travelling to Old Trafford. Alexander-Arnold is almost certain to start that one, though Joel Matip would be the favourite to play ahead of Gomez as long as he has returned from injury.
