Reds fans will love the reason Jurgen Klopp rejected Manchester United

Jurgen Klopp turned down the chance to manage Manchester United before heading to Anfield, according to Robbie Fowler, with Real Madrid also likely to have been knocked back by the German.

Four years on from his first game as Reds boss – an intense and energetic goalless draw at White Hart Lane against Tottenham – there has been lots of talk about how much longer Klopp will stay at the club and what he might do next.

Fowler may have ruled out Real Madrid with his answer, while Klopp was never going to move to Old Trafford.

Writing for the Daily Mirror, Fowler explained: “He told me he turned down a couple of super-rich clubs after Dortmund.

“One of them was definitely Manchester United, the other probably Real Madrid – because he hated how they were focused solely on commercial influences.

“He said he liked Liverpool because they had a balance between the money needed to reach the top and the history and identity of the club and their fans.”

Over the last few seasons, Klopp’s decision to come to Merseyside has certainly been vindicated. Of course, that is no massive surprise given there are similarities between the Reds and Borussia Dortmund.

Klopp could have taken a more short-term job, but that would not have suited the boss. Liverpool is the perfect club for him and he’s the perfect manager for the club.
