Liverpool ‘to battle Chelsea’ for Bournemouth and England man Lewis Cook

Liverpool are reportedly set to vie with Chelsea to secure the signature of Bournemouth and England midfielder Lewis Cook, with the Daily Mail suggesting both sides are keen to snap up the best young English talent in the coming transfer windows.

Cook certainly fits the bill as being a talented prospect, but at 22, he will rightly want regular game-time to develop as a player. Whether the Reds can offer that seems highly unlikely.

The midfielder, who made his senior England debut in March 2018, often plays as a number six, and Fabinho has that spot tied down for the foreseeable future at Anfield. Cook is also still recovering from a long-term knee injury which would further damage his prospects.

He could well be someone that the Reds are monitoring, but whether that means a bid is incoming is probably unlikely for now.

As it stands, a move to Chelsea makes a lot more sense, though even then, Cook will have to prove he can return to the form he showed before his injury setback, which is by no means a given.
