Peter Crouch admits ex-Manchester United man Gary Neville ‘p****d him off’ more than anyone else

Former Liverpool striker Peter Crouch has admitted ahead of the huge clash against Manchester United tomorrow that ex-Red Devil Gary Neville annoyed him more than any other player during his time as a professional.

Crouch had a long career spanning 20 years which saw him make nearly 600 club appearances, and he also won 42 international caps for England, but it was Neville, another Three Lions man, who he says got to him more than any other.

The moment in question was when Neville celebrated right in front of the Reds supporters after a late winner from Rio Ferdinand for Manchester United back in 2006 – the same thing many Reds fans hated him for.

Via the Daily Mirror, Crouch said: “If I think about it now, I can still see him running. Right in my direction, his arms outstretched and screaming in delight. Never before had an opposing player p***** me off so much with a celebration.

“I had been substituted and was sitting in the dugout, and from that angle, it felt like he was coming to rejoice in front of me.”

Tomorrow, the hope is that it will be Trent Alexander-Arnold or one of his teammates doing the celebrating – though for the sake of fan’s hearts, leaving to the last minute would not be ideal!

The only thing that matters is that the Reds get the three points and can further extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table.
