Redknapp backs Alisson to start for Liverpool against Man Utd

Former Liverpool man Jamie Redknapp has backed goalkeeper Alisson to reclaim his spot in the Reds’ starting eleven against Manchester United this weekend.

The Brazilian has been out injured for a few months, following an injury in the first game of the Premier League season, but is now fit again.

The question remains whether Klopp will stick or twist, with Adrian between the sticks, as the Spaniard has done himself a service in goal since stepping in for Ali.

But Sky Sports pundit Redknapp believes that the goalkeeper will step right back into the fold. “He’d be delighted that he has come into a team that has won every Premier League game so far,” Redknapp told Sky Sports (via HITC).

But Alisson’s different class. He’s one of the best. As long as he is 100% fit, ready to go, the manager would have no problem making that decision.

I think Liverpool will win the game, but it’ll be tight. Those players are putting on the Manchester United shirt, and if they have anything about them, they have got to take the pressure off the manager because he’s getting the stick.

It’s hardly a surprise that the former Red is expecting Liverpool to win the game, but his comments on Alisson are very interesting.

He does seem to reserve some of his opinion, as it’s unclear just how fit the Brazilian actually is. After being out for the best part of ten weeks, he may be carrying a bit of rust.

Liverpool are obviously going to target the Premier League title this season, and we can’t be risking another injury to one of our star players for one game – even if it’s the biggest in the calendar.
