Xherdan Shaqiri has returned to Basel for treatment on his injury

Liverpool winger Xherdan Shaqiri has returned to his homeland of Switzerland, as he continues to recover from a calf injury he sustained against MK Dons.

The 28-year-old has confirmed to Swiss media, as per the Liverpool Echo, that he will be undergoing some part of his therapy in Basel.

According to the same Echo report, Shaqiri has no chance of playing a part in Liverpool’s Champions League fixture against Belgian outfit Genk.

The play-maker turned up to support Roger Federer in a tennis tournament in Switzerland and said he’s been happy spending time with family.

I’m from Basel – so I always visit my family here. I am a little stunted at the moment. Since I can do a part of my therapy here in Basel and now I was just enough to be able to watch the Federer game,he’s quoted as saying by the Echo.

It sounds like Shaq is going through some stuff while he’s at home. He’s played a bit-part role at Anfield, since making the switch from Stoke, and may be thinking some things through.

His priority does appear to be Liverpool at the moment though – and it’s good that he’s returned home as that will surely only help him through his therapy.

The Swiss international would surely have relished the opportunity to step into Mo Salah’s boots this week, as the Reds take on Genk, but it isn’t to be this time.
