James Milner provides Liverpool contract update

It looks as though Liverpool are trying to extend James Milner’s contract.

The 33-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of this season, but according to Liverpool’s vice-captain, talks are underway and a resolution will be announced ‘sooner rather than later’.

Journalist Melissa Reddy tweeted his quotes yesterday:

Milner is no longer a regular starter in Liverpool’s side, but he’s still an important member of the squad.

In his last start, v Leicester before the international break, he produced a beautiful assist for Sadio Mane and scored the game’s winner.

In the EFL Cup before that, he again scored and assisted, producing a Man of the Match performance from left-back.

We reckon he’ll start tonight v Genk in the Champions League, either at right-back in place of Trent Alexander-Arnold – or in midfield – with the central three in obvious need of a mixup following a shoddy show v Manchester United.

Milner’s role not only in the squad but also in the dressing room and at Melwood is clearly invaluable, and we welcome another year following this one!
