Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is thought to be growing frustrated at his lack of first team opportunities at Anfield, and is considering his future.
The young England international hasn’t been able to break back into the starting XI at Liverpool, since Joel Matip has been nothing but impeccable for the best part of six months.
This transfer rumour is being first reported by football news website 90min – so do take this with a fair pinch of salt! You can read their story here.
They claim that they’ve been made aware that Gomez is getting tired of sitting on the bench at Anfield, and Arsenal and Spurs are apparently sniffing around the centre half.
While I’m sceptical, it’d be a massive shame to lose a player of Gomez’s quality, and if he decides to move on in search of more regular football then fair play to him.
Personally, I think Jurgen Klopp sees Gomez as Virgil van Dijk’s long-term partner – while Matip is playing as well as he is, there is no reason to force the England defender into the fold.
Gomez can cover Trent Alexander-Arnold at right back, and I’m sure that will further appeal to the boss going forward.
He’ll get more opportunities to prove himself soon at Liverpool, I’m sure, and I hope he sticks around and this latest rumour is nothing but exactly that.
