Liverpool have struck an agreement with Loughborough University which will see the Reds play Academy matches on their campus.

The club will be using the uni’s facilities for friendly and competitive fixtures, involving players under the age of 16, with other teams across the country.

As part of the contract, Liverpool coaching staff will visit Loughborough to work along the University’s coaches to enhance their personal development.

Loughborough Students FC will play two friendly matches against a Liverpool academy side and educational workshops will be provided by the uni to youngsters.

Liverpool’s head of education and welfare, Phil Roscoe, is thrilled with the new arrangement. “We’re delighted to formalise our ongoing relationship with Loughborough,he told the uni’s media centre.

Not only for the football experience it will provide to our players but also the academic exposure it will offer them, through all ages. It will be a strong aid for the development of players which can occur both on the pitch and off it.

Derby County actually have a similar agreement in place with the uni, but the send their U23s there instead of their undergraduate players.

Loughborough is renowned for being a solid destination for young people wanting to get involved with professional support – so the agreement certainly looks to be a good thing for the Reds.
