The Premier League have taken to Twitter to explain the decision to rule out Roberto Firmino’s goal in the first half of the fixture against Aston Villa.
VAR Martin Atkinson ruled that the assistant referee was correct to put his flag up, and the Brazilian’s finish was chalked off the scoreboard.
That was not the only decision that went against the Reds on the day – far from it – but the Premier League decided to tweet during the match in an attempt to clear up the controversy.
Their explanation, though, was utterly bizarre.

Crazy stat about what happens when Atkinson and Moss ref Liverpool emerges
The Reds simply did not get the rub of the green at Villa Park at all, with on-field referee Jon Moss inconsistent to say the very least.
Jurgen Klopp will no doubt fume about the officials, but his players did not perform at their best either. A much better performance will be required next weekend against Manchester City.
