Explained: Liverpool’s late comebacks are all down to the genius of Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool’s succession of late goals and decisive moments is no accident.

From James Milner’s penalty kick against Leicester City at Anfield, to Adam Lallana’s late equaliser at the back post against Manchester United at Old Trafford, to the two late strikes against Aston Villa at the weekend, the Reds have been pulling points out of the bag when it looked like they were defeated for weeks.

The mentality monsters simply never know when they are beaten, a trait that has taken them six points clear in the Premier League title race against Manchester City ahead of that huge clash next weekend.

The late drama is the result of intense training at Melwood and the genius of Jurgen Klopp, not being lucky as some have claimed.

As The Athletic have outlined, Klopp frequently challenges his attackers in training, putting them up against a superior number of defenders, posing a situation where they are two goals down with a few minutes to go, and seeing how they react.

The Reds players might not want to be in that situation too often, but when they are, they know exactly what to do and have practised successfully navigating it a thousand times before.

Lucky Liverpool? Meticulous, relentless Liverpool, more like.
