Manchester City are expected to be missing key midfielder David Silva next Sunday as they come to Anfield after the Spaniard picked up a ‘muscular injury’ against Southampton over the weekend.
According to the Daily Mirror, Silva has already been ruled out of the game, which could be pivotal in the Premier League title race.
Silva is now 33 and will leave the Premier League next summer, but remains a crucial part of the City squad. He would almost certainly have started at Anfield was it not for the injury setback.
Guardiola said he would be out for ‘a minimum of 10-12 days’, meaning the injury is not very serious, so there is an outside chance Silva could return in time – ruling him out publicly could also be more mind games.
Either way, with the backing of Anfield, the Reds will be confident of avoiding defeat against Guardiola’s side. Doing so would at least retain a six-point lead at the summit.
