The latest on Adam Lallana’s Liverpool future as midfielder proves his worth once again

Adam Lallana will be free to agree a move to a new club abroad in January unless he signs a new deal with the Reds before then, as his current contract is set to expire at the end of the season.

According to The Telegraph, the 31-year-old is set to be offered new terms and Jurgen Klopp wants him to stick around. Clubs in Serie A, China and Major League Soccer, though, are all believed to be interested in him.

Over the weekend, Klopp said: “I don’t know exactly what will happen in May, for anybody by the way, but the best thing a footballer can do when you have the opportunity is play well and that’s what Adam is doing.

“Now is the second time in a row, when he came on against [Manchester] United he was good. After a long time he had with some injuries here and there, he is in outstanding shape physically. That’s the most important thing for a career and all the rest, we will see.”

Lallana has often struggled with injuries during his time at Anfield and was expected by many to have departed over the summer transfer window.

Now, though, he has once again shown why Klopp rates him so highly. His late equaliser at Old Trafford could prove to be crucial at the end of the season, while he was very good in the number six role at Villa Park on Saturday having seemingly reinvented himself.

Lallana might not be on the pitch every week, but it is clear that he has a positive influence in the dressing room and it would be no shock to see him sign an extension, even if that’s only for an additional 12 months.
