Klopp could appeal referee decisions in-game with ‘radical’ new VAR proposals

VAR has been a massive topic for discussion this past week – and this whole season, to be honest – because of more controversial decisions made in the Premier League.

VAR official Martin Atkinson ruled out a legitimate Bobby Firmino goal over the weekend, and was not called upon for certain question decisions by Jon Moss.

As you’d expect, there’s issues with VAR that need to be discussed to help the technology move forward, and that’s what’s going to happen soon.

According to the Telegraph, there will be a ‘robust’ discussion in which some ‘radical’ changes could be ushered in – and that’s surely a good thing for everyone involved.

I know it’s annoying for the fans, players and managers, but imagine being in charge of the technology – I can only imagine how much this is impacting the match officials’ decision making.

The Telegraph report claims that managers may get the chance to appeal decision made by VAR in real time, but the Premier League doesn’t seem to want VAR to change the game more than it already has.

The appeals would be at a set number though, so a manager couldn’t abuse the system and argue against every decision – but it’s not yet been revealed how many of these may be handed out.

The same report also goes on to reveal that referees in the league had been told to use pitch-side monitors sparingly, and in fact not one has used them so far.
