Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson named best in the world by Goal 50

Alisson won three Golden Gloves last season – one each in the Premier League, Copa America and Champions League respectively – the first goalkeeper to ever do so!

An assured 21 clean sheets in the Premier League saw him awarded with the top-flight’s Golden Glove. The Copa America was nearly completed without Brazil conceding a single goal in the tournament, until a somewhat controversial VAR penalty was converted by Peru.

Still, five clean sheets in the quintet of games leading up to the showpiece was more than enough to see the Reds’ No.1 crowned the competition’s best ‘keeper.

To add to Brazil’s ninth Copa America victory, Alisson was obviously hugely influential in the Reds winning their sixth European Cup back in June in Madrid. In the Champions League too, the 26-year-old kept six clean sheets: the joint-highest with Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

So, that’s the Golden Glove in the Premier League, the Champions League, and the Copa America – the man is surely a shoe-in for the new Lev Yashine award.

This award is brand new for 2019 and is awarded to the best goalkeeper in the world, as part of the Ballon d’Or ceremony. The Brazilian will have to wait just a little bit longer to see if he wins that.

But for now, he can be reassured of his effort from last season as he has been named in Goal 50’s awards for the year. He’s the only male goalkeeper named on their list – so he’s their best goalkeeper in the world.
