Jurgen Klopp admits signing PSG’s Kylian Mbappe is ‘difficult’ as rumours continue to swirl

Jurgen Klopp has ruled out the Reds signing PSG forward Kylian Mbappe next summer because the price of bringing the French star in would be out of reach for the club.

This week, there have been rumours of a move during the summer window, with some reports that Zinedine Zidane is concerned that Klopp would be able to beat Real Madrid to his signature.

For all the #Mbappe2020 hype, it was always likely to be the case that the striker would be out of reach for the Reds financially.

Via the Daily Mail, Klopp said: “[Buying] this calibre of player is difficult. I don’t see any club at the moment who can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG. I don’t see any club, that is how it is. We are involved in the clubs that cannot do it – it is as easy as that.

“OK, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him – what a player he is! It is about the money, of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance.”

Klopp has, of course, categorically ruled out signing players in the past only for them to arrive at Anfield shortly afterwards – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain would be the obvious example of that – so there is still a glimmer of hope.

Bringing in Mbappe would be a game-changing signing even for the European champions, though it may require the sacrifice of one of the existing front three players, something that Klopp would probably be reluctant to sanction at this stage.
