Trent’s great response to Robbo’s windup tweet as Andy goes ahead on assists

Trent Alexander-Arnold told Andy Robertson to ‘come back to me in May,’ after our Scottish left-back bragged about taking the lead in their season-long assist contest!

The Liverpool duo have a friendly rivalry on who can deliver the most assists this term, with Robertson’s peach of a delivery for Mo Salah’s header v Manchester City yesterday making it four in the top flight so far.

Trent is on three, although he’s got one in the Champions League – unlike the left-back.

If our forwards were in a competition of who can score the most goals, we’d have an issue – as it would encourage selfish decisions – but there’s nothing wrong with an assist competition.

It merely emphasises getting your head up and playing top passes.

In fairness to Trent, Robbo wouldn’t have been able to play his pass to Salah if the right-back hadn’t picked him out beautifully already with a left-footed diagonal – so it’s not like they’re not working together.

We can say, without much doubt, that Liverpool have the two best fullbacks on the planet right now.

What a luxury!
