Sterling tried to grab Gomez ‘by the neck’ in bust-up at England camp – report

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling has been dropped by England, ahead of the UEFA EURO 2020 qualifiers against Montenegro and Kosovo, after another coming together with Liverpool man Joe Gomez.

The pair had words at the tail end of the Reds’ 3-1 win over the Citizens on Sunday, and it seems Sterling has allowed it to get the better of him on international duty.

Gomez went over to shake the City winger’s hand, but it’s then believed that Sterling attempted to grab him “by the neck“.

That’s according to a source cited by the Daily Mail, who also claim that the rest of the squad thought they were just joking until it became apparent they needed to be separated.

The Man City man later realised the mistake he had made, and offered an apology to Gomez, which was accepted, but the damage was already done. Sterling has now been dropped from the England squad for the Kosovo game.

We’d be having a different discussion had Gomez responded and sparked out the winger, but he didn’t and in doing so has shown more professionalism than his 24-year-old colleague.
