A solid rate of statistical change at Liverpool has raised the status of Sadio Mane. The star is now recognised as one of Europe’s best forwards.
Sadio Mane came from Southampton in the summer of 2016. His goalscoring output has increased year-on-year. After taking the No.10 shirt, the latter has been brilliant in terms of form and scoring goals. The Senegal international scored over 26 times in 50 appearances across all competitions.
One of his main highlights was to help the Reds win the Champions League. It was their first piece of silverware since his arrival at Anfield.
Last season, he scored a total of 22 goals in the Premier League. This played a vital role in Liverpool’s amassing of a club-record 97 points. Guess what? Mane went on to share the division’s Golden Boot with teammate Mohamed Salah. Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang also had the same amount of goals.
Sadio Mane primarily operates from the left of Liverpool’s devastating front three. The other two stars are Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. He is a flexible forward who allies lightning pace and ruthless finishing. Of course, with acute tactical awareness.
Liverpool’s coach, Jurgen Klopp, wanted to take Sadio Mane to Borussia Dortmund. It was when they first met in 2014. He was impressed with the talent of the former Red Bull Salzburg player. In October 2015, Klopp himself came to Liverpool to help them win silverware.
Lately, Sadio Mane admitted he was unsure he would get on with Jurgen Klopp after their first meeting. “He was talking too much and I said, “Wow, this is going to be tough for me because I’m a little quiet,” the Senegalese winger stated.
They have since struck up a strong relationship off the field. With Liverpool’s winning start to the season, Mane is playing a key role. On his boss, Mane added: “Everybody loves him and that is more important, to be honest. He is a bit of a funny guy but at the same time, he is a serious guy.
“Usually when I am talking to him off the pitch it is about personal things. Things about lifestyle and life – and that is important to me. I think I have somebody I can confide in.”
In November 2018, Sadio Mane committed his long-term future to the club. But with the crazy market today, it is unsure whether he will stay for long at Liverpool. There are currently many big clubs which want the service of the Senegalese star.
Liverpool could have made it nine wins out of nine against Manchester United last Sunday. But the game ended in a 1-1 draw at the Old Trafford. United are languishing in the bottom half of the table. It is perhaps the worst start of the season in their history. The pressure continues to increase on boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Which team do you support in the English Premier League? Liverpool and Manchester United are the two most successful ones, along with Arsenal.
