Earlier today we reported that Jesse Lingard had told Manchester United’s official podcast that he turned down offers from Liverpool, as well as Everton, Manchester City and Crewe Alexandra.
Well, we weren’t the only ones to pick up on the story, as it’s also been covered by several outlets, including the Liverpool Echo, and there have been some funny reactions.
MORE: “Liverpool were interested” – Jesse Lingard claims he rejected the Reds for Man Utd
To recap on what Lingard actually said – he said that he had several options when he was a kid, but felt that United was a better fit for him as he supported them as a child.
Liverpool, Everton, Man City and (he thinks) Crewe were interested in him at around the age of seven, but by nine he had trials with the Old Trafford club and had signed his contract.
Honestly, Lingard would not have survived in the current Liverpool and City squads, and he’d likely have been shipped out to another club by now.
To be fair to the lad, he is living his dream. At the age of seven if your favourite club comes knocking there is nowhere else you’re going.
Anyway – some fans have reacted quite hilariously to this news on Twitter. One even went as far as to say “he loves us too much – on a mission to destroy the scum”. Here is some of our favourites:
