Liverpool are negotiating for €130m Kai Havertz – Bild

Liverpool are in talks with Kai Havertz and Bayer Leverkusen over a potentially whopping summer 2020 transfer – but so are six other members of the European elite, says German newspaper Bild, translated by This is Anfield.

Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid are all keen on the Germany international, who alongside Kylian Mbappe, Joao Felix and Jadon Sancho is rated as one of the best young players in the world.

According to the report, Havertz’s price-tag is €130m, a jaw-dropping fee that would make him easily our most expensive player and actually one of the dearest of all time – behind Coutinho, Mbappe and Neymar.

We’re not sure we’ll spend that much on the playmaker, although his attacking midfield traits are phenomenal – as is his robust physicality – something that is required not only in the Premier League but in a Jurgen Klopp team.

Havertz offers goals, creativity and dribbling from central areas – although it would be hard to see where he’d currently fit in our set-up considering Klopp deploys three central midfielders and the 20-year-old performs best as a no.10.

It’s clear we’ll spend big next summer after buying no senior pros in 2019 – but the names and positions we’ll target are still up in the air.

Havertz would be a nice start, but we’d probably prefer a wing-forward or an elite fullback to ease the pressure off Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.
