Joe Gomez may hit Liverpool benchmark against Brighton this weekend

Young Liverpool defender Joe Gomez could very well hit a personal benchmark for the Reds this weekend as we take on Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League.

Should the 22 year old make an appearance at Anfield this afternoon, it’ll be his 50th Premier League appearance for the Reds — an impressive figure, considering his age.

Gomez has now been at Liverpool for four years, but it was during the 2017/18 season in which he began to establish himself under the guide of Jurgen Klopp.

Since then, the centre half has proven himself capable of playing alongside the likes of Virgil van Dijk and helping us in the Champions League in both 2018 and this year.

Gomez has made five Premier League appearances for the Reds so far this season, which will roughly see him on course to make a similar number of apps from last season — 16.

He’s seen himself fall to the wayside slightly, but because of no fault of his own, as Joel Matip has decided to become the best centre half in the world.

The experienced Dejan Lovren is perhaps preferred to Gomez at the moment, following a few lacklustre performances simply due to a disrupted playing time because of an injury.
