Stats show Trent is the PL’s best creator & Virgil the highest-scoring defender

Liverpool picked up three points in the Premier League over the weekend by beating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1, and both of the Reds goals were scored by Virgil van Dijk, assisted by Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Title rivals Manchester City slipped up earlier in the day by drawing with Newcastle United, and the Reds’ win opened up an 11 point gap.

Leicester City are still yet to play Everton, and they could encroach on the gap at the top, but hopefully they won’t be able to maintain their form.

But it’s interesting that both goals for Liverpool were scored by Virgil and assisted by Trent – you’d think, in a team that had Bobby Firmino, Mo Salah and Sadio Mane, that would be unlikely.

That isn’t the case though – with how Trent plays and Virgil’s relatively impressive goal-scoring record, it really isn’t that shocking.

As per Opta, Trent has provided more assists than any other Premier League defender, while van Dijk has scored more Premier League goals than any other defender in that time.

So maybe look out for more combos between the two defenders (may I remind you) in the near future!
