BBC pundit eventually apologises after calling Reds ‘Bin Dippers’

It’s the very end of 2019 and this is still happening?

Sigh.

Trevor Sinclair has taken to Twitter with an apology after calling Liverpool ‘Bin Dippers’ last night.

He initially laughed off the reaction he was getting, declaring angry Reds, ‘so sensitive,’ before a more polite, sincere message was shared first thing this morning.

The initial ‘Bin Dippers’ tweet was deleted.

In these times of austerity, when there’s over 2,000 active foodbanks in this country – it’s not only in poor taste for a millionaire, ex-professional footballer to make such jokes – but it’s damaging.

It perpetuates stereotypes about northern people being poor – as if that’s something for the south to laugh at.

The fact Liverpool is a thriving city is irrelevant in all honesty. It’s nasty and stupid – just like the pathetic ‘Sign On’ chants we hear week in, week out.

Sinclair has apologised, but we reckon that has more to do with the backlash than any genuine remorse, as the first tweet proves.
