Atletico Madrid reportedly set to rival Liverpool for Timo Werner

La Liga giants Atletico Madrid are apparently set to attempt to pip Liverpool to the signing of Red Bull Leipzig forward Timo Werner.

Atleti are in desperate need of goals and they feel as through the 23-year-old German is the man who could help them out of their rough patch, according to Antonio Ruiz on Partidazo on Cope (via AS).

But it won’t be as simple as that for the Spaniards, as Jurgen Klopp is apparently very keen on the German international and he’s reportedly sent the same signals back.

Klopp has previously plucked Loris Karius, Ragnar Klavan and Naby Keita from the Bundesliga so he clearly keeps an eye on his homeland’s league.

Werner would certainly be an impressive coup for the Champions of Europe, and the forward would be breathing down Bobby Firmino’s neck for a place in the starting XI every week.

But that’s a point of discussion for the latest rumour that’s going around the mill – the Leipzig man is said to be happy enough to initially agree to be Bobby’s back-up.

That’s according to Bleacher Report (via Team Talk) who say the forward is ready to make the jump to Anfield. They do make a point of saying that he is initially happy to do that, so maybe there would be some promises made by the club going forward.
