Klopp laughed as Van Dijk/Hendo begged him to sign Minamino, knowing he already had

There’s a brilliant story emerging about what happened in training on Wednesday…

Liverpool’s players, most notably Jordan Henderson and Virgil van Dijk, fresh off the back of Champions League qualification after beating Rb Salzburg in Austria, were coming up to Jurgen Klopp and encouraging him to sign Takumi Minamino after the Japanese international’s performance…

According to Dave Maddock in the Mirror, Klopp could barely hide his beaming grin, full in the knowledge that Minamino ‘was already a Red’!

Barring a failed medical, the 24-year-old will sign for Liverpool on January 1, with sporting director Michael Edwards in discussions with the club and player for the past six weeks, says his report.

Maddock actually says Minamino has been on his radar for six years – showing the depth of our scouting.

Now, Minamino will arrive and provide competition for not only the front-three but for the midfield as well.

His best position is attacking midfield, but he could easily slot in as an aggressive no.8 in our 4-3-3, or as the no.10 when Klopp switches to 4-2-3-1 – as he often does in-game.

As a result of Minamino’s expected arrival, Rhian Brewster and Curtis Jones will be allowed to leave on loan this winter, according to Neil Jones.
