Liverpool midfielder James Milner has signed a new contract with Liverpool which will see him celebrate his 36th birthday at Anfield.

The Champions League winner will remain at the club until 2022 as Jurgen Klopp ties down one of his most important squad players.

Speaking of the boss – he signed himself a new deal yesterday as well, and it’ll mean he’s the Reds boss for the next five years. Get in!

The brilliant news on Milner was confirmed by the club, and it may seem a little surprising that he’s been given a contract that runs for so long, but he’s not a normal player.

The Yorkshireman is ageing like fine wine at Anfield, and it doesn’t look like he’s slowing down any time soon. His versatility and leadership qualities also make him a valuable asset.

When Milner first came to the club, and was given the No.7 shirt, I was so disappointing – I’d only ever seen him as an average midfielder, but I could not have been more wrong.

Not only has he wore the shirt better than I – and I’m sure many others – expected, he’ll go down as one of the best No.7s in the Premier League era at Anfield.
