Curtis Jones scores absolute screamer v Everton and Anfield explodes in FA Cup victory

Liverpool fans already knew about Curtis Jones…

The Scouser is the best player in our U23s, but tonight, he proved he’s capable of being part of the first-team.

Versus Everton in the FA Cup, with Jurgen Klopp deciding to field a side almost entirely compromised of youngsters, Jones got the ball on the left-hand side of the penalty area and without many crossing options, decided to curl a shot into the top corner instead.

It’s fair to say that Jones, still 18, may never score a better goal in his career.

The Reds won 1-0 against Carlo Ancelotti’s Toffees, who simply ran out of ideas following the goal and looked a side bereft of confidence and energy, despite their far greater age and experience.

Anfield was a symphony of noise at full-time, as you can see in the video below, in which Jones walks around like the newly crowned King.

Liverpool fans are far more concerned about the Premier League this season, given the current 13 point lead at the table’s summit, but an FA Cup run could be the icing on the cake of an already exceptional campaign.

Neco Williams was phenomenal at right-back and 16-year-old Harvey Elliott showed he has a huge future ahead of himself if he keeps his head down and continues to develop on the training field.

It was Jones though who stole the show, making a mockery of pre-match suggestions Jurgen Klopp disrespected the competition by not picking his superstars.

The Scouser wasn’t even born the last time Everton won at Anfield, in a rivalry which has been incredibly one-sided over recent years, especially with Klopp at the helm.

Jones’ stats from the game show a player who was always on the ball and someone who could possibly take the place of Adam Lallana, likely to leave on a Bosman, next season.

Everton on the other hand, looked worryingly disinterested. A side like theirs who will not be competing at the top of the Premier League must surely do all they can to progress in the domestic cups.

Anfield taunted the Toffees who’d made the short trip across Stanley Park by reminding them that their last trophy was won in 1995 – and the result tonight confirms that the wait will go on at least a year longer.
