Whether you like them or not, you can’t deny the fact that Liverpool is one of the biggest football teams in England. There are millions of people who are a part of the “you’ll never walk alone” movement, although there are other clubs in England that have more supporters.
Apart from the club’s rich history, one of the main reasons why the fans love Liverpool is because of the many trophies that the club won over the years. Even though the players had a major role in the success over the years, the managers made a huge difference as well. That’s why we’ve decided to take a look at some of the most successful managers that the club had over the years.
Keep in mind that the names you will find here are in no particular order.
Kenny Dalglish is one of the managers who also played for the club, making him even more special. Those of you who’ve been following Liverpool for a while now definitely remember the 13 years that Kenny spent in the club.
What’s interesting about him is that he became the manager for the first time back in 1985. This made Dalglish the first-ever player-manager for the club, but this didn’t stop Liverpool to dominate everything. During Kenny Dalglish’s reign, the club won the Premier League three times.
What’s also interesting about Kenny is that he stepped in the manager role once again, after the club was going through a rough period with Roy Hodgson.
Unlike Kenny Dalglish, Rafael Benitez is a name that probably some of Liverpool’s fans don’t like that much. However, you can’t deny the fact that he helped the club a lot, especially in the Champions League.
Although Liverpool wasn’t that strong in the domestic competition during his reign, the team played in one of the most breath-taking finals in the Champions League’s history against Milan. Even if you’ve read this website to find out about the odds for that match, you probably lost your bet because the end-result was just mind-blowing.
One of the things that Benitez is famous for is the fact that he brought a lot of Spanish players to the club. All of them helped the team a lot during the years.
Sadly, Benitez was unable to win the English Premier League, although the team finished with 86 points in 2009.
The last name on this list is none other than Bill Shankly, one of the most legendary football managers of all time. He led the club between 1959 and 1974, during which the English team won a lot of trophies, both domestically and internationally.
Those of you who were interested in finding out what Shankly did for the club know that he came in when Liverpool was in a rough spot. As a result, he decided to completely reform the team from the ground up, which resulted in the release of almost everyone.
Slowly but steadily, Liverpool became one of the best teams in Europe.
Honorable mention – Jurgen Klopp
Of course, we can’t leave Jurgen out because he made Liverpool the strongest team in the world. Apart from the UCL victory, he also helped the team win its first EPL trophy in many, many years.
He still continues to be the manager of the team, so we can only imagine will he accomplish next.
