Liverpool discover Serie A centre-half’s price tag; star has been told he can leave – reports

Juventus defender Merih Demiral has been linked with a move away from Italy, with Liverpool said to be interested in the services of the Turkey international.

The Premier League champions are currently being linked with every centre-half under the sun after Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez both sustained serious injuries earlier this season.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik, Demiral has been told he can leave Juventus – but only for a fee of €45million (£40.6m) – which serves as a warning to would-be buyers.

Confirming what it would take to sign the defender hasn’t deterred Liverpool, however – with the same report claiming it’s actually ‘alerted’ the Reds to the situation.

In Demiral, the champions would be signing a top-class defender with experience playing alongside Italy legend Giorgio Chiellini and at around £40m he’d be a steal.

Fanatik isn’t regarded as a reliable source for even Turkish football news, though – so it’d be worth taking this with a tablespoon of salt, given the Reds’ well-known defensive injury crisis.

Another issue that presents itself with the Demiral rumour is the fact he’d be expecting more than a bit-part role at Anfield, which he couldn’t be guaranteed.

  1. Merih Demiral is a fantastic footballer, a gem of a defender, an excellent athlete, whom any coach would be proud and lucky to have at his disposal. A strong and burly youth, excellent at areal tussle, fabulous at intercepts, fearless at tackle, bulldozing with the ball, quick at feet and above all with plenty of potentials. What else can any coach dream of!

However, to my utter disappointment and dismay of several Juventus fans, Mister Pirlo is unable to witness Demiral’s prowess and calibre. Maybe Mr Pirlo had not had his cataract removed, or maybe he is a firm believer of ” Old is Gold”. It appears to me as blatant hypocrisy when Mr Pirlo, in the pursuit of young blood in the team, freezes Sami Khedira on one hand, while relies on old-timers in defence on the other, with no offence to our beloved captain and his deputy. Both of them are Great Players, but we need to be futuristic. Our team is slogging at the 5th spot, ten points adrift of tabletop, after round fifteen, with a very inconsistent and porous defence. When we have such lethal weapon as Demiral in our arsenal, why do we not make optimum utilization of our resources??? To rust unburnished, not to shine in use!

Still, we have the luxury of planning to sell Demiral at the next transfer window! What a laugh! such inconsistency of SANITY! Once again it will be a historical blunder to commit.

Without further ado, we must start paring our young defenders, (Demiral & de ligt) at the centre of defence in 442 or along with our Captain / Deputy in a 352 formation. Our defence was once revered, loved and feared by all accross the world. Now it is a relic of its former glory. Even teams like Crotone and Benevento make fun of Juve’s defence. We must act judiciously before it is too late. Otherwise, we will be only crying over spilt milk.

Please, God, grant some sanity to our dear Mister Pirlo and the think tank of Juventus. Please for Heaven’s sake do not sell Demiral. He is a real asset for the cLub. Nurture and nurse him with utmost care for an impenetrable defence in near future.
