Jamie Carragher has questioned Gini Wijnaldum’s admission that abuse from online fans directly factored into his decision to part ways with Liverpool on a free.
It has been acknowledged that the Dutchman was not pleased with the offer tabled by the club, with the Reds’ hierarchy thought to be unwilling to meet the midfielder’s demands in light of his age.

Speaking to The Times, the former No.5 stated that he didn’t feel appreciated by a specific section of fans on social media.
From a Liverpool perspective, it’s shameful that some so-called ‘fans’ have engaged in such behaviour with a player in blatant defiance of the club’s motto.
It’s an issue that’s not endemic to us specifically, of course, with social media abuse a global challenge that will require the united efforts of clubs, political leaders and social media caretakers to overcome.
In the meantime, Wijnaldum will be a greatly missed figure at Anfield, and we hope his time in the French capital will be free from a repeat of such abuse.
Totally agreed with Carra here. Enough already with the Gini drama. It is crystal clear why he left. Money, plain and simple and if anyone had any doubts when he did a turn around from his ‘dream’ of playing for Barca and his countrymen couch to go to PSG things should be clear. Even Barca was not interesting to him, playing with Messi wasn’t good, he simply wanted more money. Totally his right, thank you for your great service for 5 years, but enough with this utter dribble about feelings and love and some fans and bla bla.. more money, that’s all, good riddance, no need to keep explaining and justifying and moaning about it. Can’t have it both way, 30 yo player valued extra money more than long term legend status at a club like Liverpool. Not the first not the last, all good. Enough with the drama.
We need to freaking buy a valuable replacement for him soon. Plenty options out there for decent money at the right age.
