‘I’d be very angry’ – Agbonlahor issues scathing review of reported Liverpool target

Gabby Agbonlahor has warned Liverpool against pursuing Jarrod Bowen in the summer window to bolster their forward line.

The Reds’ recruitment team had been recently linked to Borussia Dortmund’s Donyell Malen, prior to the Dutch international’s exit from PSV.

They need more help. Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri on the bench. Their bench is not good enough. They will definitely struggle to win the title this season if their bench is the same,” the former Aston Villa hitman told Football Insider.

“If I was a Liverpool fan and all they are being linked with is Jarrod Bowen, I’d be very angry.

“Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good player but he’s someone you have on the bench if you can get him cheap. He’s not the sort of player that Liverpool want to be associated with.”

The 34-year-old’s scathing review of the West Ham star follows from a prior report in which the ex-Premier League star questioned the Englishman’s ability to make the step up to Anfield.

As linked targets increasingly end up at oftentimes vastly different destinations to Merseyside, it’s fair to question the likelihood of Bowen’s potential move to L4.

If the Hammers man is a genuine potential target, of course, as reliable outlet The Athletic have certainly claimed, then we’ve good cause to trust the recruitment team’s judgement on the matter.

On the outset, the Englishman seems a tidy little forward, though perhaps a bit more creative than the out-and-out goalscorer fans will have been hoping for.

There’s yet to be any further developments on the matter, though, should the 24-year-old be wearing Liverpool colours next term, he’ll need every bit of support he can get at Anfield to flourish in the famous red shirt.

Liverpool fans are baffled as to why the club hasn’t tried to hijack Arsenal’s move for a Bobby Firmino regen
