Former Premier League striker compares reported Liverpool target Jarrod Bowen with one of Jurgen Klopp’s star men

Former Premier League striker Kevin Phillips has claimed that reported Liverpool target Jarrod Bowen reminds him of Diogo Jota.

The West Ham United star has scored eight goals so far this term and is believed to be attracting interest from Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“He reminds me a bit of Diogo Jota,” Phillips told Football Insider.

“Just because of how he’s getting better and better with West Ham just as Jota did with Wolves.

“Jota turned into a quality player up there and went to Liverpool and then took it up another level. Playing with better players has meant he’s improved even more.

“Bowen is doing the same. When you map out his career so far, he’s progressed gradually with some great players at West Ham – and David Moyes has really helped him.

“He’s a confident, technically brilliant player – and he chips in with goals, as well. Putting him into a side with even more quality, he would shine even more.

“For me, he’s a class above the likes of Minamino and Origi, and could be the new Jota.”

Our attacking reinforcements give their all whenever they’re called upon but it was evident against Arsenal on Thursday that when Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are absent we struggle for creativity and firepower.

Diogo Jota has been quality ever since he arrived from Wolves in 2020 so for Bowen to be compared to the Portugal international is a real compliment.

There’s still two weeks or so remaining in this month’s window so it’ll be interesting to see whether we make a move now or wait until the summer to confirm our interest in the Englishman.

  1. Pointless article. Bowen not for sale. What would he gain anyway,!Price now been said by West ham to be north of 100mill and still not interested. Actually neither is Bowen despite what you read,Has never siaidinterested in Liverpool and now getting a new contract.WAKE UP AND GET OUT OF THE REPETITIVE RUT YOURE IN.

  2. Jarrod Bowen gave an interview recently in which he praised Mo Salah. A ‘journalist’ at Football Insider then decided to say this meant Bowen wanted to not only emulate Salah, but to join LFC. The story has since snowballed, with other publications picking up the article and suggesting Bowen is ‘open’ to signing for Liverpool. The fact is, the story is fabrication. Bowen has never expressed a desire to play for Liverpool, he is under contract until 2025 (even if he doesn’t renew) and West Ham have no intention of selling him. The worrying aspect about all of this is that the lies being circulated in the media haven’t been corrected by LFC, which suggests they may be party to it. They seem to want to unsettle the boy, in the hope that he might himself agitate for a move and thereby bring his price down. Liverpool are not the only club guilty of this tactic, of course, but they appear particularly adept at it. If they seriously don’t understand what it means to act properly and honourably as far as transfer protocol is concerned, it really is time the FA got involved.

    1. Well theyre wasting their time Bowen is very happy at West Ham and keeps talking about what the team can achieve .Dont think any price will go down at all. West Ham a have said price will be north of 100 mill but not interested in any sale. Neither of course is Bowen. As for Football insider never have been impressed.
