Super agent tells Man United to copy Liverpool example to return to title-winning ways

Rob Segal has told Manchester United to follow in the footsteps of Liverpool’s recruitment team in bringing in quality players gradually.

The Red Devils’ transfer policy of late has been far from reliable or inspired, with the club struggling to identify the right talents to fit a system and take the side forward competitively.

“This proposed squad rebuild is long, long overdue. The only thing I think they have got right in recent times is appointing John Murtough as their football director,” the agent told Caught Offside.

“He is a really good operator and understands and knows so many people. Darren Fletcher is great too, so between those two and Erik ten Hag, who isn’t one to mess about either, Man United now have to give them the money, give them time and let them get on with it.

“The way Liverpool has done it has been the right way. They’ve gone out and bought maybe one or two key players a year and slowly integrated them – players who were exactly what they were looking for too.”

That point could not be better demonstrated by the whopping 19-point gulf that exists between the two rivals in the English top-flight – a stark reality that could become even more nightmarish should Jurgen Klopp’s men win at Anfield.

As the merry-go-round of managers has ultimately proved, the rot at Old Trafford is evidently far deeper than the facade.

By contrast, we addressed our issues with investment in areas behind the scenes – most notably in recruitment, with Michael Edwards a superb sporting director.

Continuity, however, is the name of the game, with the true test of our long-term plan to come following the Englishman’s departure this summer and, then, once more when Klopp’s terms expire in 2024.
