Liverpool’s £116 million signing Florian Wirtz has now been given a clear timeline to impress, with former Reds midfielder Didi Hamann suggesting the German could leave Anfield in January if he does not show his worth.
Wirtz under pressure amid Liverpool striker competition

Speaking to CoinPoker.com, Hammann made the bizarre claim: “Could Florian Wirtz still leave Liverpool on loan in January? Yeah.”
It’s a notion that absolutely nobody will get behind.
Hamann also claimed the competition between our two expensive forwards, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike, is holding both players back.
“I never really understood why they got two centre forwards… you want to know that you’re the main man,” he said, noting that such battles can undermine confidence and performance.
Wirtz, who joined us from Bayer Leverkusen after consecutive Bundesliga Player of the Year awards, has struggled to make the same impact he enjoyed in Germany.
Hamann highlighted that the team’s disarray makes it even harder for our No.7 to shine, adding that he does not appear happy at the moment and tends to overcompensate defensively.
While the German pundit’s perspective is worrying, it overlooks the context that Liverpool have endured a difficult start to the season, with our squad adjusting after the departures of Luis Diaz and other key players.
Hamann’s assessment comes as the Reds aim to regain stability following a tough run of results, including a disappointing home defeat by PSV in the Champions League.
Support for Wirtz from Klopp and evidence of potential

Despite the criticism, Wirtz has defenders at Anfield, including former boss Jurgen Klopp.
The 58-year-old publicly defended him as a “once-in-a-century talent” and dismissed scrutiny over his slow start as overblown.
It seems that Klopp is in the minority of stories coming from German sources that are actually positive around Wirtz’s future at Anfield.
Sport Bild tried to drive a wedge between Mo Salah and the German playmaker with their stories and it’s all quite odd how this situation is being handled.
As Liverpool look to stabilise results, Wirtz’s next few weeks will be critical.
The German international’s adaptation to Premier League intensity, alongside balancing competition between Isak and Ekitike, will shape both his short-term future and the club’s season.
While Hamann predicts a January decision, Liverpool fans will hope our No.7 can soon produce the moments of brilliance that justified his record transfer fee.

One suspects that’s out of the question, Didi.
One doesn’t believe LFC will allow such pricey merchandise out of their sphere of influence at the moment.
They may be going through a sticky patch, but through these kinds of hardships, a close group of people can find a deeper comradeship.
That could serve us well in the not too distant future.
What’s more likely is a swap deal with Real Madrid, Rodrygo for wirtz in January. Would suit both parties. We Made a mistake with wirtz, he’s more suitable for the Spanish league under Alonso, Rodrygo has pace, he can score and play in multiple positions up front. Wirtz will never succeed in the premier league, he’s too lightweight and has no pace. I said this before we bought him,
If it’s for vinicius Jr, I am excited. Don’t get me wrong. If they really need to swap, then I want Vin. Wirtz is full of potential but still learning and training to adapt to Premier league. He will come good soon.
Vin jr. will go to Utd before LFC.
He’s more their style of professional.
@Redmist 21, will see…
ReM21 has a case history of a little overexcitements, pal.
Lots to say, but nothing of substance.
That’s plain crazy talk!!…he must shut his gop and let Wirtz play on.
Haman talks about Isak and Ekitike playing together getting in each others road was that not the same paring that Howe wanted at Newcastle lol 😂
Didi’s just doing a bit of friendly stirring having played for both Toon and then seeing the light and coming to Liverpool.
That said, it’s been a few games in which it hasn’t clicked yet, but it will.
There’s still bumps in the road to come, but it will get sorted eventually.
Patience and faith.😃
