The Saudi connection explained

Posted by

Ok here is the scoop, as of the latest hours nothing has been signed yet. This is what happened in the last 48 hours.

Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah al-Saud was a guest of George Gillett at Anfield on Saturday and on Sunday he also visited the Academy. George Gillett invited him to discuss promoting Nascar in the Middle-East and to set up Liverpool Academies in Saudi Arabia. The prince caught Gillett by surprise when he showed interest in actually purchasing 50% of the club. This is not looking likely as Tom Hicks will have to agree and he (Hicks) will only sell 25% of the club.
But hey if Prince Faisal purchases 25% that would be a good start.

  1. Heya Antoine. Yeah this puts more light on the issue, lets hope it goes through because once the prince flashes the cash Hicks’s nostrils will flare at the smell of the loot and before you can say hicks out the prince may very well end up with a 50% stake in the club !

Now Damn that would be good to see, get them out before its too late !! As you say 25% is better than nothing. Lets hold thumbs it is a done deal !

  2. I agree certainly a good start! My only worry is that with a Saudi prince providing financial clout that those yanks will stay on at the club leeching off our good times!

  3. I Wonder If there could be a way we can get off the Yankees. the came with borrowed money, bought the club and made fake promises which were never fulfilled. the Promised world class stadium at Stanley park and good transfer kitty but neither of them is going to happen so soon. the instead are thinking of repaying the loans by cutting from the club revenues. Pray to GOD that this Prince gets the most shares as he would inject more money into the club so that we may at the future be challenging in the the transfer markets with the likes of real and city..(Roman is out of the race).

  4. Actually I think there’s slightly more to it than that. The issue is discussed at some length in this article http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601077&sid=aUZ9qdM0UIKU – which includes direct quotes from an F6 spokesperson.

It looks like the Prince is interested in buying the club and from the figures being discussed the valuation hasn’t disuaded him. They’ve said an agreement could take 3-4 months to put in place though.

Here’s hoping, the man’s got the money and the business acumen to run the club as it deserves. Fingers crossed.
