For a long time I had wondered how George Gillett came across Liverpool F.C. in the first place, how did he decide to pick L.F.C. out of so many clubs?
It all started after Michael was injured in the 2006 World Cup. It was a horrific knee injury which forced Michael to be out for many months. During his rehabilitation he did go to Vial Colorado for treatment at Dr. J. Richard Steadman’s clinic. Dr. Steadman is one of the world’s leading knee specialists and his list of clientele has included many football players and other top athletes. The doctor is also a very close friend with George Gillett
In his autobiography Jamie Carragher reveals how after the L.F.C. buyout he (Carra) called Michael Owen to ask him about George Gillett as Owen had gotten to know Gillett during his rehabilitation in Colorado. So what exactly did Owen & Gillett talk about? Did Owen sell Gillett the idea of purchasing Liverpool? If Michael did this I do not think he did it to screw us but rather to try to help us. Knowing him he thought he was doing something good for his ex-club and in return he gave us George Gillett and his partner in crime Tom Hicks.
Well everyone knows the rest of the story, Gillett tried to purchase Liverpool but did not have enough money. In the meantime DIC had stepped in and were close in buying L.F.C. however Gillett got Tom Hicks (who he knew from his hockey connections) to go in with him on a bid.
Their bid was accepted and we all rejoiced, well for about 6 months until they tried to get Jurgen Klinsmann to replace Rafa.
