In a season when it appears that no one wants to win the league, everybody appears to want to finish fourth except Liverpool! Going to Eastlands, I never thought Liverpool were guaranteed 3 points but certainly felt City were there for the taking, just as Arsenal had been a couple of weeks ago. Thankfully, I did not have to sit through the 90 minutes on TV, as by all accounts it was truly dire, and therefore am in absolutely no position to offer an opinion on the game, seemingly a game for which the phrase ‘Bore Draw’ was invented.
The positives, the only positives that can be taken from this are that we did not lose, as both Chelsea and Arsenal have done, and both Yossi and El Nino returned from injury. A lot has been made of Fernando’s absence and rightly so, but arguably Benayoun’s creativity has been missed most of all. Hopefully, they are returning at the right time to push us into fourth place.
Following the highs of last season, we have been consigned to all-so-rans in the title chase since November. My hopes are for a successful finish in fourth, a quick end to this most disappointing of seasons with a possible silver lining in the shape of the Europa League Trophy and of course a hicksandgillett-ectomy ASAP.
