Gerrard and Torres not to go?

Posted by

Although throughout the summer the media will have tons of reports of clubs trying to sign Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres, I am growing calmer.

With no manager, Torres and Gerrard looked to depart this summer, with Real Madrid eyeing up our captain and Barcelona looking to bid for Fernando Torres. Roy Hodgson now has a tough job in his first few weeks of becoming Liverpool manager; persuading El Nino and Stevie G to remain at Anfield. Personally I thought having no manager for a long time, our top players would have left, leaving the club a mess.

Luckily Roy Hodgson is now here and I think he can save the duo from departing. Torres and Gerrard got frustrated with Rafa Benitez last season, because of his crazy tactics and rotations. Don’t get me wrong, Benitez was a great manager, and will always be remembered at Liverpool FC for winning us the ‘best’ ever Champions League final. But last season unfortunately he messed up at the club. We were forced to settle for a Europa League place and soon after the season ended the manager was sacked from Anfield.

Steven Gerrard believes Hodgson is the right man for the job, which gives a great hint he will remain with Liverpool for at least another season. And for Fernando Torres, for the time being let him do his job for Spain. Clubs may also now be less interested in the striker after his poor performances for the Spanish in this years World Cup. This is better for Liverpool F.C and lets hope he can improve soon.

So now that we have a new manager I believe Gerrard and Torres have a better chance of staying.

  1. even when he is performing badly, all knows he’s a great striker.. it won’t lessen their interest a bit..

  2. I hope they are true club player rather than ‘rafa’s player’, and I do hope Hodgson bring some luck with him to our beloved club. YNWA.

  3. Sam, if you think just by having a new manager in place will go a long way to keeping SG and FT, your seriously deluded. Yes Gerrard said Hodgson is the right man for Liverpool-firstly he would have to say that and secondly it gives no indication on whether he will actually stay or go. He can still go to Real and say Hodgson is the right man for Liverpool. Yes Torres has had a poor WC so far, but Messi has yet to register a goal-does this make him a less attractive proposition? And lastly, this is Hodgson we are talking about. I would rather play under a pedigreed and proven manager like Benitez, Mourinho, Lippi, and Capello than Hodgson.
