Many Liverpool fans are simply ecstatic we’re buying a goalkeeper who will genuinely push Simon Mignolet for a starting spot, but others are disappointed we’re not flatly replacing the Belgian.
Lorius Karius looks set to sign for £4.7m from Mainz, and his imminent signing has largely split the Liverpool fanbase.
In fairness, we haven’t seen a lot of him, and neither will those offering ‘insight’ online… What’s clear is that at 22, he’s a big talent, and under Jurgen Klopp – surely has the potential to improve and usurp Mignolet.
Here’s some of the polarised reaction so far…
Let me celebrate this moment in the knowledge that Mignolet is no longer our first choice goalkeeper. Hopefully Karius will do the job.

Hope we sit here in 2 years time and reflect on how we got 2 Karius for the price of 1 Mignolet. — Benteke Big Balls (@lfcswebranch) May 16, 2016
£4.7m for Karius is a absolute Bargain. Instant upgrade on Mignolet and starter and potential world class keeper.

@DaveOCKOP Karius isnt much better than Mignolet tbh… pretty average keeper who spills alot of routine saves. Ive followed him for 2yrs.

Karius is a pretty confident keeper, bit naive at times. Crazy reflexes, struggles in the air like Mignolet though. Room for improvement, 22 — Dinesh Hardayal (@DHardayal) May 14, 2016
Karius strongly linked tonight, I have prefered Timo Horn but let’s face it Bilbo Baggins be an upgrade on Mignolet

Klopp should give Mignolet the Westerveld treatment and sign both Karius and Horn!!! — Iver Hanrahan (@IverHanrahan) May 14, 2016
So looks like the Karius stuff is from Kicker. Rep is that he’s poor on crosses and his kicking looks shit. But if he stops shots, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
