Arbeloa heaps praise on Anfield legend; explains why he was better than Zidane

There aren’t many better players in the history of world football to be compared to besides Zinedine Zidane. One that springs to mind, however, is Steven Gerrard.

West Ham full-back Alvaro Arbeloa has spoken of his time playing alongside the midfielder at Liverpool as he prepares to face his former team at Anfield on Sunday.

He told the Guardian: “I’ve been lucky. I’ve played with some of the best players in history, but Gerrard’s the most complete.”

When questioned over whether he was more complete than Zidane, he quickly replied: “Could Zidane defend like Steven?”

“He defended, he attacked, he was good in the air, he could hit it with his right, with his left, he could head a corner or take it, play everywhere. He could do so much, so well. He has experience, he’s worked with good coaches, and if he wants to be a coach, he can.”

“You think he’s calm but on the pitch he’s all passion. You see him flying into a tackle or celebrating a goal and think: ‘Calm? Yeah, when he’s sleeping maybe …’ And if he wants to be a coach there’s no better place than Liverpool.”

We couldn’t agree more. He could do everything.

There hasn’t been one person so far that has appeared to be against Gerrard moving into management or coaching one day.

At his very best, it can be argued that there was nobody better. To top of his incredible talent, he was a truly great man, a role model and the local hero all young children aspired to be like.

Football and Liverpool in particular can’t overlook the opportunity to give a man of his loyalty and experience at the top of the game the chance to share his expertise.

We cannot wait to see him back involved in the game.
