Klopp reveals FSG’s simple stance towards Coutinho’s future

Liverpool’s Fenway Sports Group owners have informed Jurgen Klopp of their stance towards Philippe Coutinho’s future at the club.

The Brazilian playmaker was recently subject to a £72million bid from Barcelona, which the Reds immediately rejected and followed up by reiterating that the player is not for sale.

Klopp has since followed through with plans to sit down with Coutinho to tell him he would not be leaving the club this summer.

The Reds boss has also been informed by FSG that they would not be considering any bids for the 25-year-old, according to the Liverpool Echo.

“Everything I say comes back from the owners,” Klopp said.

“Yes, I would say (he doesn’t have a price). It’s very clear. He’s not for sale. What else can I say?”

Neymar’s proposed £199million move to Paris Saint-Germain has seen Barcelona turn a focus towards Coutinho as a backup for his close friend and international teammate.

Touching on the potential world record transfer deal, Klopp added: “There are so many rumours around. Only one of them is the Coutinho rumour.”

“If Neymar is not a rumour then pffff it’s more than the next level, it’s really not from this planet anymore.”

“Really? 222million Euros? I can’t believe that something like this would happen. But if it does happen then it changes everything actually.”

A second bid seems imminent given the enormity of Barcelona’s opening offer and will undoubtedly be a true test of Liverpool’s resolve, regardless of an adamance the team’s star man will not be allowed to leave.

Fans have good reason to believe, however, that Coutinho will be staying put ahead of his most important season yet, in which many feel he can help Liverpool challenge for the Premier League title.

FSG taking a firm stance early on is exactly what was required.
