Rhian Brewster made his mark on the international stage yet again on Saturday as his hat-trick guided England’s U17s to the World Cup semi-finals.
The Liverpool starlet was the standout figure in the Young Lions’ 4-1 quarter-final over the USA in India.
A ruthless display from the Reds youngster followed up his crucial penalty in the shootout against Japan in the previous round, as well as a superb free-kick in the 3-2 group-stage win over Mexico earlier in the competition.
The 17-year-old’s first goal was pure instinct as he quickly adjusted his feet to volley home the rebound from Phil Foden’s cross.
He doubled his tally three minutes later when he ran onto Foden’s through ball before calmly chipping over the on-rushing goalkeeper.
Besides bagging three goals of his own, Brewster was also at hand to turn provider for Morgan Gibbs-White, who put England 3-0 up after 63 minutes.
The forward then won and scored a penalty in the 95th minute to claim the match ball and make it another day to remember.
Brewster’s significant progress over the past year has seen him promoted to the U23s team as well as earning him a place on the Liverpool first team bench for last April’s clash with Crystal Palace.
