Reliable journo reveals truth behind viral €18m Liverpool rumour

Reports linking Liverpool to Gremio star Luan barely had time to breathe before drowning in well-informed denial.

The Brazilian has yet again surfaced as a target for the Reds, having supposedly engaged in talks over a deal little under a year ago.

Those rumours subsequently failed to materialise into negotiations, but Luan has re-emerged as an option amid Liverpool’s search for attacking reinforcements.

Yahoo Sports’ Duncan Castles has suggested that discussions are underway between both clubs over the forward.

Contrary to that report, there is no truth behind claims of talks being in progress, according to the Liverpool Echo’s Ian Doyle.

Conflicting updates persist to tarnish the transfer window, with news outlets striving to fuel a potentially inactive search for further January acquisitions on Merseyside.

The club and notable close sources evidently remain tight-lipped on transfer business following the summer fiasco surrounding the pursuit of Virgil van Dijk.

It’s safe to assume Luan won’t be arriving before February, but that’s not to say another player won’t or that another player shouldn’t need to.

Though the win over Manchester City teased encouraging signs of life without Philippe Coutinho, the lack of adequate options from the bench against Swansea served as a reminder that attacking adding reinforcements can do no harm.

With Daniel Sturridge expected to depart on loan, there is a natural onus on the club to fill the gap.

Dominic Solanke isn’t yet at a stage to be deemed an accomplished backup plan, nor has Danny Ings played enough first team football this season to be classed an assured alternative.

Klopp may make a case for Roberto Firmino’s form, Mohamed Salah’s ability to play through the middle or even the introduction of a Ben Woodburn, but there is no denying the value of strengthening the squad this month.
